Nutrition – A Common Sense Approach

Just recently foods have begun to be viewed as an important healing force.  Since 1988, the Surgeon General has talked about the value of a good diet.  Still, in the past five years, more and more Americans have begun to have greater health problems related to their diet.  Diabetes is soaring.  Heart disease, obesity, stroke, atherosclerosis, and some cancers can be linked to an improper diet.

Healing Properties of Food

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), food acts according to various healing properties and can profoundly affect all body systems.  Knowing only vitamin, mineral, and general nutrient properties is simply not enough.

In ancient times, master healers in China perceived a way to classify foods for various conditions and patterns of imbalances.  If a patient is overheated, then cooling foods are recommended.  Warming foods are best for patients that tend to be cold natured.  Building foods are great for patients with chronic deficiencies.

Baihui strongly recommends if possible, that all organic vegetables, meats, dairy, and fruits be eaten.  Due to chemical fertilizers and overuse of soil, foods are no longer rich in the trace minerals and nutrients that we need to build healthy bodies.  Animals are laced with growth hormones and we are indeed growing in all the wrong places. The best foods to use as a basis for long-term balance are simple foods.  These foods do not over cleanse, build, or stress the mind, body, or spirit.  In my practice, when patients make appropriate dietary changes, marked improvements in their health are dramatic.

Antioxidants are Essential

In support of our patients, Baihui actively encourages all of its patients to recognize the importance of antioxidant supplements to offset premature aging and disease. The higher a patient’s antioxidant levels, the more robust health he or she will have.
